Greek-Bulgarian natural gas pipeline: The road to operation opens

The certification of the Greek-Bulgarian natural gas pipeline project, recently inaugurated by the prime ministers of the two countries, paves the way for its commercial operation.

The certification awarding ceremony of the Greek-Bulgarian natural gas pipeline ICGB AD as an independent natural gas transmission network operator took place today in Sofia.

In his greeting, the president of RAE Athanasios Dagoumas noted that “the IGB Pipeline comes at the right time to strengthen the interconnection between Bulgaria and Greece as well as the security of supply in the wider region, a strategic goal of our country’s energy policy in which a leading role owned by the Energy Regulatory Authority”.

He added that RAE has asked the ESFA Administrator to amend the Development Program to include one more compressor in Komotini.

Referring to the Alexandroupolis FSRU he said it is expected to be operational in November 2023 and will connect to the IGB pipeline ensuring greater volumes of gas to the Balkans and northern countries.

He announced, at the same time, that at the end of the summer RAE will complete its proposal for the solidarity agreement between the Balkan countries.
