Bolsonaro appoints Sachsida to the Itaipu Council, with remuneration of BRL 27,000

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) appointed the Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, to assume the position of adviser Itaipu Binacional. His term on the collegiate runs until May 2024 and entitles him to a monthly remuneration of BRL 27,000.

The body usually meets once every two months, apart from extraordinary calls. Other people close to Bolsonaro make up the collegiate, such as the minister of the Secretariat of Government, Célio Faria Júnior.

Also in the Official Gazette of this Monday (18), the exoneration of the council of Itaipu was published, at the request of the president of Eletrobras, Rodrigo Limp.

The board of directors of the state-owned company is composed of six names appointed by the Brazilian government and six by the Paraguayan government, in addition to having a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of each country.

Sachsida was appointed to take over the ministry in May amid the chief executive’s offensive against Petrobras to reduce fuel prices. He is close to the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, and has political positions in line with those of the president.

The council’s budget is not calculated within the constitutional ceiling of R$ 39.2 thousand. Thus, he will be able to accumulate the salary of a minister of state, which is R$ 30.9 thousand, and that of a counselor. Sachsida’s predecessor in the portfolio, Bento Albuquerque, also makes up the collegiate.

One appointment to the council of Itaipu that generated controversy was that of Carlos Marun, former minister of the Government Secretariat of former president Michel Temer (MDB).

The emedebista appointed the ally to the post the day before leaving the command of the federal government, with the approval of Bolsonaro, who reappointed him in May 2020.

His appointment was even overturned by federal judge Rogério Favreto, of the TRF-4 (Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region). Afterwards, the 3rd Panel of the court overturned the magistrate’s provisional decision.
