Ex-Volks leader in Latin America takes command of the group in the US

by

The German automaker Volkswagen announced this Tuesday (19) that Argentine Pablo Di Si is the new president of the group in North America, a region where he will also be responsible for the Volkswagen brand. Until then, Pablo Di Si was responsible for the group in Brazil and Latin America.

The group encompasses the Volkswagen, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti brands.

Di Si replaces Scott Keogh, who will preside over the fledgling company Scout, dedicated to launching all-electric pickup trucks and “robust” SUVs in the United States. The changes take effect on September 1.

According to a statement released by Volkswagen, the objective with the change is “to accelerate the growth strategy of the Volkswagen group in the United States, with a portfolio of more than 25 models of electric vehicles planned until 2030”. The goal is to double the group’s share in the American market.

The Argentine is an enthusiast of hybrid models that run on electricity and ethanol (hybrids generally run on energy and gasoline). In an interview with Sheet in August last year, Di Si reinforced the group’s commitment to launching electric cars on a global level.

“But for Latin America this reality is not yet viable, there is no supply infrastructure. Here, however, there is ethanol, an excellent alternative,” he said at the time.

The automaker’s plan is to offer Americans, by the end of the decade, more than 25 battery-powered electric (BEV) models. “Volkswagen will soon begin local production of its all-electric ID.4 compact SUV in Chattanooga [no Tennessee]which will help to meet the high demand of customers in the market”, says the company, in a statement.

“Scott Keogh and Pablo Di Si played important roles in turning around the business in their respective regions, North America and Latin America,” said Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert
Diess, in note.

The group stated that it should soon announce the replacement of Pablo Di Si.

A graduate of Harvard Business School, Di Si, 52, holds an MBA in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Management and a degree in Accounting from Northwestern University. He also holds a degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance from Loyola University of Chicago.
