Folha-Mauá Ranking: Chevrolet Onix Plus stands out among compact cars due to low consumption

by

General Motors has invested in the electrification of its models, but without abandoning combustion engines for good. Proof of this is the result obtained by Chevrolet Onix Plus in the Ranking Folha-Mauá 2022.

The model was the most agile in all performance tests in the Compact category (Sedans and Hatches).

The evaluated version has a 1.0 turbo flex engine (116 hp) and a six-speed automatic transmission. His best result was in the road consumption test with gasoline, in which he managed to run 23.8 km consuming one liter of fuel.

It is worth mentioning that the second and third places in this test also recorded averages above 20 km/l. The positions were occupied by Honda City in the sedan and hatch bodies. The models of Japanese origin use a 1.5 flex engine (126 hp).

All the cars that make up the podium in the Compact category have an initial price close to R$100,000. As it is a segment that deals with large sales volumes, deliveries are still affected by the lack of components in the market.

Onix was the model that suffered the most from the lack of semiconductors. Production in Gravataí (RS) was interrupted for about six months throughout 2022.

The company’s focus at the moment is to prepare the arrival of its electric cars in the Brazilian market. Cars start hitting stores next year.

The first launch will be the Bolt EUV, a high-suspension, off-road-style version of the electric hatch. The model costs the equivalent of R$ 145 thousand in the USA.

How tests are done

To measure the performance of cars, the IMT (Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia) uses the V-Box, equipment that uses a GPS signal.

The acceleration and resumption tests are carried out on the ZF company track, in Limeira (São Paulo countryside).

The stage that checks consumption in the city is 27 km long. To simulate a road trip at 90 km/h, engineers drive for 31 km. Both routes are in São Caetano do Sul (ABC), where the institute’s headquarters are located.

If the car is flex-fuel, two measurements are made: one with ethanol, the other with gasoline.

The consumption of electric models is measured through the charger installed in the IMT. The test calculates the cost to run 100 km in urban and road modes.
