There is intense interest from the foreign media in the indictment submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court by the president of PASOK-Movement of Change, regarding the attempt to trap his mobile phone by the Predator surveillance program.

It is characteristic that Reuters, Politico Brussels, Euractiv, -among others- refer to the case with their extensive articles.

“Telephone monitoring scandal” is the title of an article by Politico, regarding the allegations made by Nikos Androulakis, also referring to the monitoring of the mobile phone of journalist Thanasis Koukakis.

The Reuters article points out that the complaint by the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, “comes at a time when the European Union is starting to follow the United States and look more strictly at spyware vendors and the use of powerful surveillance software.”

The European Commission has been alarmed by the new case of attempted wiretapping of the mobile phone of the socialist leader Nikos Androulakis, as characteristically writes in an article by Euractiv.

It hosts a comment from a representative of the European Commission – who is not named – that “any attempt by national security services to gain illegal access to data of citizens, including journalists and political opponents, if confirmed, is unacceptable”, adding that “the Commission expects national authorities to thoroughly investigate any such allegations and restore public confidence.”
