Panel SA: New president of Twitter only publishes on the social network once in a while

by

The new president of Twitter, Parag Agrawal, announced for the position this Monday (29), uses his social network account infrequently.

Former head of technology at the company, he joined the platform in April 2008 and has around 290,000 followers. Until this Tuesday (30), he tweeted or interacted with other publications a little more than 3,200 times — on average, there were 250 tweets per year and 20 per month.

The activity is much lower than that of his predecessor, company co-founder Jack Dorsey, who has posted 28,000 tweets since he created the account on the platform, in March 2006. There are almost 1,900 interactions annually and 150 per month. Dorsey has 5.9 million followers.

With the change in the company’s leadership, searches for the names of Agrawal and Dorsey jumped on the internet. Right after the announcement on Monday, the terms reached a value of 100, which represents the peak of popularity on the scale adopted by the Google Trends tool.

Dorsey is expected to sit on Twitter’s board of directors for some time. The businessman, who also heads payments company Square, had been under pressure from investors because of his management. Earlier last year, he had to publicly defend his ability to run both businesses.
