Fiat Toro and Toyota Hilux stand out among diesel pickups

by

The 2,090 kilograms of the Toyota Hilux double cab did not prevent it from achieving the first place in performance among diesel pickups.

The SUV started from zero and reached 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The retaking test (80 km/h to 120 km/h) was completed in 7.1 seconds.

The model also obtained the best road consumption mark. According to the results achieved by Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia, the Hilux has the autonomy to run up to 1,208 kilometers on the road with a diesel tank (80 liters).

The version evaluated was the SRX, which has an automatic transmission and costs R$ 325,500. It is a vehicle designed to run in deep Brazil, equipped with 4X4 traction and capable of transporting up to a ton of cargo. Its 2.8 turbodiesel engine has 204 horsepower.

With a more urban proposal, Fiat Toro did well in the consumption test in the city. In this condition, he managed to travel 11.3 kilometers on one liter of diesel.

The version evaluated was the Ranch, which has a suggested price of R$ 213.3 thousand. Its 2.0 turbo engine offers 190 hp of power.

In sales, Toro and Hilux are close. The Fiat pickup had 25,863 units licensed in the first half, while the Toyota model accumulated 21,546 licenses in the period.

While the utility vehicle of Italian origin has flex and diesel options available to the customer — all with automatic transmission —, the Hilux is also offered in options with a single cabin and manual transmission.

In 2023, the competition in the pickup truck segment will be fiercer. Among the confirmed novelties are the new Chevrolet Montana and the Peugeot Landtrek.
