“GSEVEE from the first moment they were established in 2013 had submitted their opinions and pointed out that this is an outdated institution”

The decision of the government to proceed with the abolition of the institution of intermediate discounts, with a provision included in the bill of the Ministry of Development and Investments that is being discussed these days in the Parliament, is welcomed by the General Confederation of Professional Craftsmen and Merchants of Greece (GSEVEE).

As stated by GSEVEE in its announcement “the abolition of intermediate discounts was a request of all small trade businesses and GSEVEE from the first moment they were established in 2013 had submitted its views and pointed out that it is an outdated institution which it creates distortions in the market and offers no benefit to businesses and consumers.

The account to date has proved them the zero return in the funds of businesses. Intermediate discounts have not only not helped small and medium-sized businesses in terms of their sales levels, but have called into question even the very institution of discounts.”

GSEVEE underlines that it has been its permanent position since the first day of implementation of the measure, its abolition and this position has been documented with the data of its investigations regarding the economic footprint they left.
