Mônica Bergamo: BRL 1 note signed by FHC is auctioned for BRL 16,000

Last week, the liberal and non-partisan movement Livres auctioned a R$1 note signed by former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) and members of the team that managed the Real Plan for R$16,000.

The event, which took place on Wednesday (27), was held during an event that celebrated the 28th anniversary of the plan that, in 1994, controlled hyperinflation in the country. Former Central Bank presidents Persio Arida, Gustavo Franco and Pedro Malan and economists Edmar Bacha and Rubens Ricupero also signed the ballot.

The piece, which was framed, was bought by economist Luciana de Oliveira Hall. The Livres event also featured a conversation about the challenges posed by inflation in 2022 and possible solutions to combat it.

“With the increase in inflation, resulting from fiscal irresponsibility, it is necessary to rescue the importance of the Real Plan, which was one of the greatest social policies in the history of Brazil, allowing millions of families to have autonomy over their own money”, says the director- Livres executive Magno Karl.

“We have distanced ourselves from this plan and are in the opposite direction: inflation, misery, inequality, fiscal disarray and fragile institutions as a legacy of this government”, continues the leader, referring to the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
