The sick worker who is scheduled for expertise at the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) can apply for sickness aid at a distance, through the Meu INSS app or website, without having to be attended by an expert doctor, according to information from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
The sickness benefit without expertise went into effect last Friday (29), with the publication of an INSS and Social Security ordinance regulating the measure, and will be available for 30 days, and can be extended. The new rule is valid for those who have expertise scheduled for 30 days or more.
To place an order, the worker must access the Meu INSS app or website. You must have a password. In addition, the medical certificate or report to be sent cannot have been issued for more than 30 days. The aid will start counting from the date of the request, according to Social Security.

- Inform whether or not it was an accident at work (for an accident at work, it is not possible to carry out the expertise remotely)
- Read the information and click “Next”; the screen “Aid for temporary incapacity – Document Analysis – AIT – Remote Assistance” will appear.
- Check your contact details, enter your email or cell phone and declare that you agree to follow up with your information by email by calling 135
- It will be time to send the documents; take a photo of your ID and send it; also photograph and certificate and/or medical report and send
- On the next screen, when you enter the zip code of your address, the nearest branches will appear. The insured must select the agency they want and click “Next”
- If, in the case of the worker, remote expert analysis is allowed, the system will inform this option; then a screen will appear to inform the bank to receive the money
- Then the service will end
Sending the certificate cancels scheduled expertise
The request for analysis of documentation cancels the medical expertise that is scheduled, without changing the date of entry of the request. The maximum period of leave allowed is 90 days. No appeal is allowed if aid is denied.
It is also not allowed to restore a previous benefit and it is not possible to extend the aid, if the citizen is not recovered for work on the date indicated for the medical discharge.
According to the INSS, if the disability remains, the insured person can request the benefit again, but only after 30 days after the last analysis performed. It was not informed whether, in this case, the citizen will have to undergo an expert examination.
If the system does not release the request for distance expertise, it will be necessary to attend the INSS medical examination on the scheduled date and time. On the day, take personal documents with photo and original medical reports, even if they have already been sent over the internet.
For lawyer Rômulo Saraiva, a specialist in Social Security and columnist for Sheetthe possibility of asking for help without undergoing medical expertise is assertive.
“Whoever is unable to work, and deserves to receive the benefit, should not wait months for it, often generating psychological disturbance and indebtedness due to the inertia of the INSS”, he says.
The specialist recommends that those who are able to make the request remotely choose to send the certificate through My INSS, as long as the documentation is correct. “I recommend [perÃcia a distância] provided that the medical report is within the requirements of the INSS.”
