Panel SA: Event promoters fear that new variant will delay the sector’s resumption

Companies operating in the events market fear that the uncertainties created by the new variant of the coronavirus will abort the resumption of the sector, which returned to growth after months of business paralysis due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Marcelo Checon, owner of the infrastructure company M&Co, remains optimistic, but fears mainly the cancellation of New Year’s Eve parties. “If it’s something like the beginning of the pandemic, it will certainly impact the market as a whole, and the chance of business survival will be even lower,” he says.

Checon’s company, which last month set up the structure of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Interlagos for more than 180,000 people and is preparing for the Lollapalooza music festival in March, has seen demand for coverage for air events free jump in recent months.

His schedule for assembling furniture at social events, such as weddings and parties, is also full on Fridays and Saturdays in 2022, according to Checon. The uncertainties created by Covid also affect customer planning, shortening deadlines for holding events.

HSM Expo, a business management event scheduled for next week, will once again be held in person this year. According to Reynaldo Gama, president of HSM, participants will be required to provide proof of vaccination, test for Covid-19 and use of a mask.

Fearing that the sector’s recovery will be affected, the Brazilian Association of Event Promoters (Abrape) should publish an open letter in the next few days against the widespread cancellation of Carnival parties by city halls in several cities because of the micron.

Doreni Caramori Júnior, president of the entity, says that the parties should be held in places where it is possible to follow sanitary protocols, as is already allowed today. In the letter, the organization asks for technical discussions on the subject and says it will resort to “all possible means so that there is no setback”.
