Panel SA: Ministry of Economy changes rule to open up translators market in Brazil

by

The Ministry of Economy opens this Thursday (4) new rules to reduce bureaucracy in the work of sworn translators, who translate official documents with legal effect in the public sphere.

The idea, according to the agency, is to eliminate barriers to allow an increase in the supply of the service and reduce the high costs currently practiced.

The new standard overturns requirements required of professionals, such as minimum age and the need to prove domicile where the activity will be carried out, measures that restricted the number of workers in the field.

The contests will be held nationally and no longer statewide. With this, professionals will be able to work throughout the Brazilian territory, that is, they will not be forced to limit themselves to the state of their registration. This point of change aims to solve the problem of states where there was a lack of public translators and interpreters, according to the ministry. According to the agency’s estimates, Brazil currently has around 2,500 of these professionals and several states have been without a contest for a long time.

The measure also allows foreigners residing in Brazil to work. And any professional who obtains a degree of excellence in national or international proficiency exams will be exempt from the event.

The service is also no longer practiced by tabulation in commercial boards.
