Until Thursday (18), when the auction for the 7th round of airport concessions will take place, which includes Congonhas, tension should still rise with complaints from the surrounding residents.
In addition to attempts through representations in the Federal and State Public Ministry, popular action and administrative challenge to the public notice, the group still plans to question the holding of the auction or the withdrawal of Congonhas from the bloc so that a new public notice is made with more specific rules on the increase in flights in the terminal and environmental studies.
According to Guilherme Canton, president of ANMA, an association that brings together neighbors from Moema, in the south of São Paulo, the next step is to try to sensitize the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment.
“For us, it’s also important for the city to start moving to understand the impact of this, because it’s going to happen. We’re understanding that we can’t stop. Now, we’re trying to trigger them”, says Canton.
Residents’ list of concerns cites problems with air quality, road system overload, noise level and increased risk of accidents.
Specialists in the sector say that the expansion of flight capacity at the airport can help increase the concessionaire’s revenue, enhancing the result of the auction, but it requires investment in infrastructure.
