The 23-year-old had long-standing differences with the 53-year-old whom he fatally shot on Sunday afternoon in the village of Elos in Kissamos, Chania, during a festival.

According to police editor Theodosis Panou, the 23-year-old told the police that during the festival he approached the 53-year-old’s group. The two were talking until the 53-year-old made a sudden move causing the 23-year-old to get scared and so he pulled the gun and shot the 53-year-old three times.

The two had met a few days ago. The 23-year-old was driving a motorcycle and the 53-year-old the car. The 53-year-old then made dangerous maneuvers trying to throw the 53-year-old from the machine.

Both o Both the perpetrator and the victim had a criminal recordn. The victim, in fact, was known by two aliases as “Passaris” or “El Paso”. The nicknames were given to the 53-year-old because of the violent nature of the 23-year-old. The 53-year-old was charged with possession of weapons and dangerous bodily harm, while the 23-year-old was charged with possession of weapons.

The 22-gauge pistol with which the 23-year-old is accused of shooting and killing the 53-year-old was found dumped in a field in Elafonisi, far from Elos.

“Families didn’t talk for 15 years”

The wife of the 53-year-old victim broke her silence. As the woman revealed, “vendetta” had covered the 2 families who had been in contact for over 10 years.

The widow emphasized that there had always been intense hatred between the perpetrator and the victim of the murder due to personal differences (not financial reasons) and described a brutal incident that took place some years ago in the small village of Chania, where the 22-year-old’s family broke into the house of the 53-year-old’s mother after first threatening her.

“For the last 15 years the families did not speak. There was always a hatred behind him,” he said speaking to MEGA. “My man was stigmatized. He had been given that nickname because he was hot-tempered. When you teased him, he wanted to be vindicated in some way.”

“You will never know the plain truth here, one is hiding the other. I will bury my man in my village, he was betrayed by his village. If you ask them, they only have bad things to say about him” he added in the same vein.

According to the 52-year-old’s wife, two years ago members of the attacker’s family attacked and broke everything in the house of the 52-year-old’s mother. “My husband was quite angry inside and maybe sometimes, if he saw him somewhere, he could say something to him,” she added.
