Bolsonaro says he expects the dollar below R$5 soon and further reductions in the price of gasoline

President and reelection candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Thursday (18) that he believes that the dollar will soon trade below R$5, which, he hopes, will lead Petrobras to reduce the price of gasoline again.

“I hope the price of gasoline continues to fall. Of course, this price has to do with the dollar, which has been falling, and also the price of oil abroad,” Bolsonaro said in his weekly live broadcast on social media.

“The dollar is reluctant to go down from five, I think it will go down soon, after all we only have good news about the economy in Brazil,” he added.

The US currency closed this Thursday close to stability against the real, with a positive variation of 0.06%, at R$ 5.17.

The exchange rate is one of the components of the fuel price policy practiced by Petrobras.

On Monday, the state-owned company announced a reduction in the average price of gasoline at refineries by 4.85%, the third reduction in less than a month, following oil prices abroad.

The value of a liter of fuel to distributors went from R$3.71 to R$3.53, the lowest level since the beginning of March, after previous reductions carried out on July 20 and 29, of 4.9% and 3 .88%, respectively.

The president also mentioned in the broadcast several tax reductions announced by the federal government, and said he hoped that the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, “continue to reduce taxes”.
