IBGE will have a selection process with 207,000 vacancies for the 2022 Census

by

The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) received, this Friday (3), authorization to carry out a simplified selection process with 207,020 vacancies for the 2022 Census. According to the institute, the measure was authorized by the Special Secretariat for Debureaucratization, Management and Digital Government through two ordinances published in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Of the 207,020 temporary jobs, 183.1 thousand are for census takers, 18,420 for supervisory census agents and 5,500 for municipal census agents. The organization of the selection process will be carried out by the FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas).

The IBGE census should have been carried out in 2020, as this population count occurs every ten years and the last one was carried out in 2010, but, in addition to the coronavirus pandemic last year, the lack of transfer of funds by the federal government to fund the process in 2021 was an obstacle.

Initially, the selection for hiring census takers, municipal census agents and supervisory census agents called for the hiring of 204,000 temporary workers in the country. Now, in addition to expanding the number of vacancies, IBGE is in the process of returning the amounts that were previously paid.

According to the institute, the new enrollment period is scheduled to start in December. Information on the date, values, tests and prerequisites to participate will still be published by FGV.

Those who applied for one of the census agent vacancies paid a fee of R$ 39.49. For census takers, the amount charged was R$25.77. To run for enumerator, the candidate must have completed elementary school, and for the positions of census agents, completed high school.

In the canceled selection, the salary offered for the municipal census agent was R$ 2,100, and for the supervisor, R$ 1,700, with a workload of 40 hours a week, eight hours a day. Censors are paid for productivity.

Entries in the 2020 and 2021 selection processes will not be valid for the 2022 selection. Interested parties must re-enroll and pay the application fee to participate in the new selection process. According to the IBGE, the census will visit more than 70 million Brazilian households, in all cities in the country, starting in June of next year.

Budget

The 2022 Census will be possible after the government’s retreat, since the case ended up in the STF (Supreme Federal Court). To the Supreme, Planalto informed that it would expand IBGE’s budget for carrying out the Census in 2022. For this, the Special Secretariat of the Treasury and Budget authorized an amendment to PLOA-2022, setting a total amount of R$ 2.292 billion for the Budget of the 2022 Demographic Census.

The institute even suspended the carrying out of objective tests in April, after the vote on the Budget in Congress. The federal government had previously set aside only R$ 2 billion to carry out the surveys next year, but the institute stated that the amount was insufficient and R$ 2.29 billion would be needed to carry out the re-registration.

In May, the STF decided that the government would only need to carry out the Census in 2022. In September, tests were carried out for the 2022 Census in person on Ilha de Paquetá, in Rio de Janeiro.
