The Federal Police this Tuesday (23) fulfills search warrants against businessmen who, in a group of private messages, defended a coup d’état if former president Lula (PT) defeats Jair Bolsonaro in the presidential elections in October.
In addition to the searches, Minister Alexandre de Moraes also authorized the businessmen to be heard by the PF and the blocking of their respective social networks.
Among the targets are Luciano Hang, from Havan, José Isaac Peres, from the Multiplan shopping chain, Ivan Wrobel, from Construtora W3, José Koury, from Barra World Shopping, André Tissot, from Grupo Sierra, Meyer Nigri, from Tecnisa, Marco Aurélio Raymundo, from Mormaii, and Afrânio Barreira, from the Coco Bambu Group.
The conversations between the businessmen were revealed by the Metrópoles website.
The searches were authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, and are based on a request from the Federal Police, within the scope of the investigation of digital militias, which targets an alleged criminal organization responsible for the dissemination of fake news and attacks on institutions.
Moraes also authorized the blocking of accounts on social networks and breaches of banking and telematics secrecy of the targets. The warrants are carried out by PF agents in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Ceará.
In one of the messages revealed by the portal, businessman José Koury says he prefers a coup to the PT’s return and that “nobody will stop doing business with Brazil” if the country becomes a dictatorship.
André Tissot, from the Sierra group, in another post said that “the coup would have happened to you in the first days of government.”[Em] 2019 would have gained another ten years more,” he said.
Koury, according to Metrópoles, also suggested the payment of bonuses to employees who voted following the indication of the businessmen. The possibility was commented on by Marco Aurélio Raymundo, from Mormaii, who recalled the possibility of the proposal being a purchase of votes.
Earlier this Tuesday afternoon, the national president of the PT, deputy Gleisi Hoffmann, praised Moraes’ decision. “I think it was a firm and important decision. The TSE has to take action in this regard. After all, a conspiracy of people of this level is against democracy and institutions.”
Entrepreneurs deny coup intention
After the dissemination of messages that defended a coup, Luciano Hang, owner of Havan, confirmed to Sheet who is part of the group, but said that he almost never manifests himself and at no time did he talk about the Powers.
“I see that my name sells newspapers and generates clicks. They involve me in every possible controversy, even though I have nothing to do with the story,” Hang told Sheet. “I am for democracy, freedom, order and progress.”
Asked about the founder’s manifestations in the group of businessmen, Tecnisa’s advisory informed that the company “does not speak on behalf of Meyer Nigri” and that he “is not a spokesperson for the company”.
“Tecnisa is a non-partisan company, which defends democratic values and whose institutional positions are restricted to its business activities,” he said in a statement.
Afrânio Barreira, from the Coco Bambu group, released a note in which he states that he has never spoken out in favor of any conduct that is not institutional and democratic. He adds that actions aimed at breaking with democracy do not correspond to his thinking and positioning.
“Democracy is the key to building a better Brazil. I highly value the opportunity to vote and choose representatives of our Brazilian people, and every citizen should be aware of the importance of this moment.”
“I value and will always defend an honest and fair electoral process,” said the businessman, who adds that he often expresses himself with “emoticon” reactions to some message, but without necessarily endorsing its content, or having read all of its content.
“We are not conspirators or in favor of any coup”, said businessman José Koury, in a note sent by his communication team.
“Messages obtained from a private WhatsApp group of friends have been misrepresented in their meaning and context.” Also according to him, businessmen are against any type of dictatorship. He also said he would not comment further on the matter.
Concern about frequent attacks by Bolsonarist groups against democracy led business and civil society entities, politicians and citizens to endorse letters in defense of the democratic rule of law in Brazil.
To Metrópoles, some businessmen also spoke out denying that they defend a coup d’état or that they support acts that are illegitimate, illegal or violent.
