President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) backed down from his statement on hunger in Brazil and said, this Saturday (27), that the country “starves”. The current representative participated in motorcycle racing in Vitória da Conquista, in the interior of Bahia.
“With the pandemic and the war, Brazil is starving,” Bolsonaro said in a speech to supporters.
In an interview on Friday (26), the chief executive relativized hunger in the country, stating that there is no “real” hunger in Brazil.
“There is no real hunger, as it is said. What is extreme poverty? You earn US$ 1.9 a day, that’s R$ 10. Auxílio Brasil is R$ 20 a day. ventura is on the Mapa da Fome can register and will receive”, said Bolsonaro.
According to research published by the Penssan Network (Brazilian Network for Research in Food and Nutrition Sovereignty and Security) and carried out by the Vox Populi Institute, 33 million people are hungry in Brazil today.
He also denied the data and admitted that he loses votes when speaking. “What can we say, if you go to any bakery, there is no one asking to buy bread. There is no such thing. When I say that, I’m losing votes, but reality can’t help but say,” he said.
