Guedes chooses auditor to command Revenue and defines names for secretariats

Minister Paulo Guedes (Economy) defined the name of an auditor to command the Federal Revenue.

Julio Cesar Vieira Gomes should be chosen, according to people with knowledge of the subject.

According to members of the Federal Revenue, Gomes is a respected auditor, with a technical profile, discreet and with academic experience.

In recent days, civil servants pressed against the name of José Barroso Tostes Neto, current Special Secretary of the Revenue, and even approved a motion to repudiate his name for not carrying out public tenders and other demands.

Another name confirmed in the new dance of chairs is that of Daniella Marques, special advisor and right-hand man to Guedes, who will take over the Special Secretariat for Productivity and Competitiveness — headed up until now by Carlos da Costa, who will assume a position abroad.

In recent days, Guedes had already signaled Daniella’s name to interlocutors, saying that he would choose a name from outside the ministry for the secretariat and that he has been with him on the team since the beginning. The only person who would fit these and other flagged characteristics was Daniella.

Another novelty is the entry of Alexandre Baldy in the position of political articulator at the Ministry of Economy. He was Minister of Cities during the Michel Temer government and State Secretary for Metropolitan Transport of São Paulo until October during the João Doria (PSDB) government.

The Ministry of Economy needed a name for the function of political articulation after the departure of Esteves Colnago, who became Special Secretary for the Treasury and Budget.

According to interlocutors, the portfolio was looking for a name and assessed that someone with a political profile would be suitable for conversations with Congress. Baldy is linked to the minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira. Both are from PP.

Baldy’s long-term stay in the portfolio, however, is a question. This is because he has signaled his desire to run for the Senate for the state of Goiás — in this case, he will have to leave the government at the beginning of next year.
