CVM asks Twitter for user data

by

Some Twitter users were notified this Wednesday (31) by the social media company that the CVM (Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission) requested their account data, as part of a review of the performance of digital influencers.

“We inform you that your Twitter account is the subject of a request for the provision of your data within the scope of the investigation in progress before the Securities and Exchange Commission”, states the email from the legal area of Twitter.

The email was accompanied by a CVM document dated August 8, addressed to Fiamma Zarife, director general of Twitter in Brazil.

“The Securities and Exchange Commission requires information regarding the profiles of users of the Twitter platform as listed in the attached file”, says the letter, which asks for full name, CPF and email.

The deadline for submitting information was August 23. The email sent to customers does not have the attached file mentioned.

The CVM confirmed the sending of the letter and said that it is “thematic supervision work”, involving the performance of digital influencers in the markets regulated by the autarchy.

Reuters confirmed with at least ten profiles, the majority dedicated to financial matters, the receipt of the email.

“Like many other users of #Fintwit Brasil, I received an email from Twitter informing that it passed my personal data to the CVM due to a request from the municipality on August 8th”, said analyst Ricardo Gomes, from @Woodyraiz.

“I am available for any clarification”, said Gomes, noting that he has CNPI certification and is accredited by Apimec/CVM.

Sought after, Twitter did not respond immediately.
