Vassilis Kikilias continues the cycle of contacts with players in the German tourism market

Mission to Berlin with the aim of extending the tourist season as well as preparing for the next season, he is carrying out the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias who since this morning has a series of contacts with the heads of airlines (Lufthansa, Eurowings, Condor) and large tour operators (TUI, DER Turistik etc.).

A common point of discussion is this year’s success of Greece, as it was the only country in Europe that managed to achieve an increase in flights compared to 2019, the closure of travel packages that reaches the end of 2022 and the interest in expanding flights in the winter with the aim of extending the tourist season, which can be implemented both in large urban centers and in the region.

More specifically, in the meeting he held with the Head of Corporate International Relations and Government Affairs of the Lufthansa Group, Kay Lindermann and the Head of Government Affairs of Eurowings, Vladimirvon Schnürbein, Mr. Kikilias described the framework of the strategy developed by the Ministry of Tourism for the airlines in order to strengthen their flight schedule during the winter months. It is noted that the Lufthansa group made, in the summer alone, more than 14,000 flights to our country (Swiss, Lufthansa, Austrian, Brussels), while Eurowings, according to Mr. Schnürbein, plans to increase its flights both for the winter as well as for the summer of 2023.

Immediately after, he met with the CEO of DER Touristik, Soren Hartmann, in which the Minister of Tourism developed the plan that includes both the functionality of hotel structures, museums and shops of health interest in the coming months, as well as the promotion of the country, through the EOT, to attract Northern European pensioners. Mr. Hartmann welcomed the initiative of the Greek minister, pointing out that the goal he has set is feasible and has prospects.

At noon, Mr. Kikilias held a working lunch with the managing director of Condor, Christian Lesjak, who in turn agreed on the dynamics of the plan to extend the tourist season in Greece, which, he said, can be achieved with expansion of the company’s flights to key destinations.

Vassilis Kikilias continues the cycle of contacts with players in the German tourism market, while in the evening he will have a working lunch with the new CEO of TUI Sebastian Ebel and its executives.
