A woman in Australia has been ordered to sell a mansion she bought with funds that would have been mistakenly transferred by the cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com. The information is from the American newspaper “The Washington Post”.
According to the report, in May 2021, Crytpo.com mistakenly transferred around $7.2 million to Thevamanogari Manivel.
The woman was entitled to a refund of only US$68 (R$351.42) and the failure would have occurred by an employee who filled in the payment amount field with a bank account number.
The platform would only have identified the million-dollar mistake at the end of last year, in the midst of an internal audit process.
Consulted by the American newspaper, a spokesperson for Crypto.com stated that he could not pass on any official position because the matter is being dealt with in the courts.
When trying to block the amounts in the accounts, however, the company discovered that most of the amount had already been spent or transferred to third parties.
With the amount transferred by mistake by the platform, she would have bought in February a mansion with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, cinema and gym, worth US$ 925,000 (R$ 4.8 million).
The purchase would have been made for his sister, Thilagavathy Gangadory, who lives in Malaysia, according to documents filed by Crypto.com with the Australian Court.
Based on the material presented, a judge in southeastern Australia ordered in August of this year the sale of the property and the transfer of the proceeds to the cryptocurrency company.
