This is the first time that the average price of unleaded single has fallen below the €2 “barrier” in almost six months
Under 2 euros per liter the average nationwide price of simple unleaded fell yesterday, according to the latest newsletter of the observatory of Ministry of Development and Investments.
The average value, based on measurements in 4,399 gas stations, it was set on Tuesday at 1.993 euros per liter of 95 octane gasoline. In many gas stations in Attica, the price has dropped below 2 euros for a few days, but the average price reflects the reduction in the cost of gasoline in the region, where prices are usually higher, especially on the islands.
At the same time, the downward trend of the average price of unleaded 100 octane continued, which was just under 2.23 euros per liter.
The de-escalation in prices has been observed for weeks, at least since the beginning of August, but it is not clear whether the decision by the OPEC+ group to reduce daily crude oil production will cause upward pressure in the period ahead.
This is the first time that the average price of unleaded single falls below the €2 “barrier” after almost six months, as it “climbed” above this level between March 7 and 8.
The government has supported car and motorcycle owners through subsidy programs Fuel Pass 1 and Fuel Pass 2which concern the six months April-September and essentially cover the increase in the price of fuel for the vast majority of drivers.
Until the beginning of September about 3 million citizens had applied for Fuel Pass 2and the amount allocated for the specific program reaches 200 million euro.
