SA Panel: Pharmaceutical industry wants to warn government about cut in Popular Pharmacy

by

The pharmaceutical industry plans to take to the government its concern about the budget cut of the Popular Pharmacy, a program that distributes free or discounted medicines to the low-income population.

Nelson Mussolini, president of Sindusfarma, says that the withdrawal of resources from medicines that help in the prevention of diseases can overload the cost of subsequent treatment with the worsening of the patients’ condition.

“If you don’t take care of hypertension, the patient can have a stroke. If you don’t take care of diabetes, you can have amputation. A person who is productive today will end up in Social Security. Instead of being contributory, he becomes a beneficiary. program is to shoot yourself in the foot”, says Mussolini.

In his accounts, the cost should go up. “It is a program that, with R$ 2 billion, takes over 20 million Brazilians from hospitals”, he says.
