Guilherme Arana, from Atlético Mineiro, suffered a serious injury to his left knee in the draw with Red Bull Bragantino, held on Wednesday night (7 ). The left-back, who had been called up to the Brazilian national team, is out of the World Cup.
According to the bulletin released by the club alvinegro, “the athlete had a multi-ligament injury, compromising the posterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments, in addition to tearing the medial meniscus and cartilage”. Physiotherapy has started, and surgery to reconstruct the ligaments is still to be scheduled.
Arana, 25, was a starter for Tite in the Brazilian team’s last match, the 1-0 victory over Japan in June. He had a good chance of appearing both in this Friday’s call-up (9), for friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia, as in the list for the Qatar World Cup – the competition will take place between November and December, and there is no time for recovery.
The bid took place in the 48th minute of the second half, in the clash between Atlético and Bragantino. Arana received a ball in the defense field and took a strong tackle from Carlos Eduardo, who hit the knee and left ankle of the Atlético side.
The side left the Mineirão lawn crying, to receive medical attention. Despite the tough entry, responsible for the entry was only punished with a yellow card by referee Jean Pierre Gonçalves Lima (RS).
Visibly in no condition to play, Galo’s shirt 13 returned to the field in the 52nd minute of the second half, just to make a number on the field. The game went on until 54, and Arana was seen again by doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, from Atlético and also from the Brazilian team. Exams this Thursday (8) confirmed the seriousness of the problem.
