Who are the beneficiaries of the double heating allowance – Bonus for those who reduce consumption

The energy crisis has brought heating up and down. Households have been in a race to solve the intractable conundrum of heating costs that have caught fire compared to last year.

At the same time, the government is expected to announce an incentive to reduce the consumption of electricity and natural gas through a graduated subsidy on bills. In other words, the less one consumes, the greater the subsidy one will receive. Decisions are expected in the next few days.

  • For heating an average household with natural gas for a consumption of 12,000 KWh this year 3,000 euros are required from only 840 euros last year with the bill increasing by 2,160 euros and apparently becoming uncollectible.
  • In the heating oil for a consumption of 1,200 liters. last year the cost was €1,356 while this year the surcharge reaches 248% before subsidies at today’s prices with 1,200 liters costing more than 1,600 euros.
  • The heating with drift this year it is 12% cheaper after the generous subsidies and an average household for 3,500 KWh last year the cost was €1,105 and this year it will pay €980, i.e. -€125.

Who are the beneficiaries of the double heating allowance?

Those who turn their backs on air conditioners and natural gas will have a double heating allowance this year as long as their income does not exceed 16,000 euros for the single and 24,000 for the couple with an additional 3,000 euros for each child.

Tiered subsidies for both electricity and gas tariffs – Bonuses for those who reduce consumption

“We will continue to subsidize all bills. We will continue to subsidize all monthly consumption and all homes whether primary or non-primary, regardless of income. With one difference: There will be scales, so that the lower the consumption, the higher the subsidy,” said the Minister of Energy, Kostas Skrekas.

The more households save, the more subsidies will increase, reducing charges, but it is impossible to eliminate them almost entirely for natural gas as they did for electricity.

“There will also be an increase in the natural gas sector, which part of natural gas prices have run out of steam, we are talking about increases of 10 and 12 times higher. It will have the same characteristics as the electricity aid had in terms of beneficiaries. It will not have such a big effect, but the perimeter will be horizontal, everyone will be strengthened”, emphasized the Government Spokesman, Yannis Oikonomou.

“We want to give an incentive to move people who have had electricity until now, and electricity mainly uses natural gas, which is very expensive,” said the Deputy Minister of Finance, Theodoros Skylakakis.

Announcements on the new subsidy model are expected within the next 15 days.
