Panel SA: AstraZeneca finances the planting of 20 thousand trees in the interior of São Paulo

by

Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has partnered with the non-governmental organization SOS Mata Atlântica to finance the planting of 20,000 tree seedlings in the Baixo Tietê region, in the interior of São Paulo.

The trees should occupy an area equivalent to 80 thousand square meters, or ten football fields, in Reginópolis and neighboring cities. The company should invest R$330 thousand in the action, including costs with monitoring and maintenance of the area in the future.

The company claims that the objective of the action is to contribute to the fight against climate change, but not to accumulate credits that offset the carbon emissions of its Brazilian operation.

According to AstraZeneca, the project’s trees would make it possible to offset 3.3 thousand tons of carbon dioxide, or five times the company’s emissions in Brazil in 2020. The pharmaceutical company’s goal is to zero emissions by 2025.
