The specialization of the measures has already begun since the beginning of the week, and will continue next week with interventions in the way electricity and natural gas are subsidized.
Almost all Greek households and a large number of businesses are within the perimeter of the measures announced last Saturday by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The specialization of the measures has already begun since the beginning of the week, and will continue next week with interventions in the way electricity and natural gas are subsidized. Then there will be the ministerial decisions in order to start the implementation of the measures to support households and businesses in the face of soaring energy costs.
Shortly before the end of the year, the first part of the interventions, which are of an extraordinary nature, will be completed and will be followed by the implementation of the permanent relief measures from tax and insurance burdens for a large number of households and businesses.
Heating benefit
Heating is undoubtedly the most pivotal point in government policy, given that both electricity and natural gas are at unimaginable levels.
The axes on which the subsidy strategy moves are the following:
1. Horizontal reduction of 25 cents per liter for everyone regarding heating oil. The measure will be effective from October 15, when it will be available. For this subsidy, the consumer does not need to do anything, since the price reduction will be done at the pump. This is a measure similar to the subsidy that will be given until the end of September for diesel traffic.
2. Incentives, for those who can, to use heating oil instead of natural gas or electricity for their heating. As explained by the competent ministry, there is no question of changing the boiler. Recommended where possible. e.g. if someone last year instead of oil used the air conditioner or for those houses or apartment buildings that have kept the boiler and the tank and can relatively easily and without significant costs change the heating fuel. In this case the allowance is doubled.
3. The basis for calculating the allowance based on degree days per area is increased from 300 euros to 350 euros and applies in addition to oil and firewood or pellets in areas with up to 2,500 inhabitants. In addition to the increase in the calculation base, the measure is broadened and includes even more people, since the income criteria are growing. For natural gas, there will be a separate intervention that will be announced next week.
The income criteria are as follows:
* Single with an annual income of up to 16,000 euros
* Married with an annual income of up to 24,000 euros
* Married with 1 child and annual income up to 27,000 euros.
* Married with 2 children and annual income up to 30,000 euros.
* Married with 3 children and annual income up to 33,000 euros.
Let’s see some examples of what amount the beneficiaries will receive:
* In Kato Nevrokopi, the amount this year will rise for the unmarried to 444.50 euros, from 381 euros last year. For those who have two children at 622.30 euros from 533.40 euros last year.
* In Kryoneri, the allowance for a single person is 374.50 euros from 321 euros and for a married person with two children at 524.30 euros from 449 euros.
* For someone who lives in the Municipality of Athens, the subsidy rate is 0.43, the subsidy will be calculated as follows: 350 euros X 0.43 = 150.50 euros, while last year the corresponding amount was 129 euros. If he has two children, the amount rises to 210.70 euros, while last year it was 180.60 euros.
* For a single person living in Thessaloniki, where the subsidy rate is 0.71, the subsidy will be calculated as follows: 350 euros X 0.71 = 248.5 euros, while last year it was 213 euros. Since she has two children, the amount reaches 347.9 euros, while last year it was 298.20 euros.
* In Komotini for a single person the benefit is 311.50 euros from 267 euros and for a married person with two children at 436.10 euros from 373.80 euros.
* For a single person in Domoko the allowance is 315 euros from 270 last year and for those with two children it rises to 441 euros from 378 euros.
The amount is doubled for all those who change the heating method. The potential beneficiaries of the allowance amount to 1.3 million households.
