Last batch of Income Tax refund will have a correction of 4.22%

The fifth and final batch of the 2022 Income Tax refund will have a correction of 4.22%, based on the basic interest rate of the economy (Selic). The money will be deposited to taxpayers on the 30th. The batch consultation should be opened by the Federal Revenue this Friday (23).

The Revenue will also disclose how many people will receive and the amount to be paid in this lot. So far, R$ 24.9 billion have already been paid to 17.3 million taxpayers.

The Selic rate is 13.75% per year. The expectation of analysts, however, is that this trajectory of increases, which started in March 2021, will be interrupted this Wednesday (21), when the Copom (Monetary Policy Committee), of the Central Bank, announces its decision.

This is the highest level of interest since 2016, when the rate started the year at 14%.

The percentage is the highest ever paid this year and will be applied to refunds of taxpayers who declared the IR on the last two days, May 30 and 31, or who left the fine mesh after the IRS identified inconsistencies in the declaration.

In 2022, the IRS received more than 36 million declarations. Not everyone who sent the Income Tax is entitled to a refund. There are taxpayers who had tax to pay. Of the approximately R$ 25 billion to be paid in restitution, R$ 7 billion is missing.

How the refund is paid

Payment of the refund is made to the bank account informed by the taxpayer in the IR declaration. It must be an account in the name of the declaration holder. This year, it is also possible to receive through Pix, but the option must have been indicated in the IR.

Every month, the Revenue receives from the National Treasury the amounts to pay the refunds and creates lots. The inclusion of taxpayers complies with legal priorities, such as the elderly.

According to the Revenue, the calculation of interest on the refund is based on the final date of delivery of the IR. In 2022, the deadline for delivery was extended to May 31, with this, refunds are corrected from the month of June.

If the taxpayer changes account and the credit is not carried out, the amounts are available for one year at Banco do Brasil. Citizens must reschedule the credit on the BB Portal, at https://www.bb.com.br/irpf.

It is also possible to reschedule by telephone at 4004-0001 (capital cities), 0800-7290001 (other locations) and 0800-7290088 (special telephone exclusively for the hearing impaired).

If you don’t receive it within a year, the money goes back to the tax authorities and it is necessary to make the request on the e-CAC Portal, which is the Federal Revenue’s Virtual Service Center.

Inquiry for refund

The refund consultation is carried out from 10 am on the day on which the IRS releases the information. It can be done on the website Receita.fazenda.gov.br or on the Meu Imposto de Renda app. There is also the possibility of consulting the e-CAC Portal.

In the e-CAC, it is already possible to know if the declaration is in the refund queue, but there will be no specific information about the batch. For this query, it is necessary to inform the gov.br password. On the Revenue website, the citizen enters CPF, date of birth and other requested data.
