Hannover Motor Show: Ford shows electric van and new pickup truck that will arrive in Brazil

The Hannover Salon is the stage for brand launches that will arrive in Brazil. One of the main ones is the electric version of the Transit van, available in different sizes in Europe.

One unit is already being tested in Brazil and has been evaluated by the sales and engineering departments of the American brand. The launch should take place between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

The new version presented in Hannover is called e-Transit Custom. It is a shorter model and with style that refers to passenger cars. Its autonomy is 380 kilometers with a full charge of its batteries.

The model on display at the German show is painted metallic blue with black stripes. Its roof is lower than other versions, which makes the van more suitable for accessing buildings with covered garages.

Diesel powered versions of the Transit are manufactured in Uruguay and sold in Brazil. Since the beginning of production, at the end of 2021, a thousand units have been sold in the country.

According to Guillermo Lastra, director of commercial vehicles at Ford South America, it is possible to assemble the electric version at the Uruguayan unit. The decision, however, depends on the market’s interest in the model.

The new generation of the Ranger pickup, which was unveiled in November 2021, is also on display at the Hannover Motor Show. The model will be produced in Argentina from 2023.

There is also a curious stand with Ford trucks. Although the company has left the segment practically all over the world —the Brazilian factory of heavy vehicles was the first of the brand to be closed in the country—, the Turkish company Otosan continues assembling the models and distributing throughout Europe.

The Hannover Salon, which resumed after a four-year break – the 2020 edition was canceled due to the pandemic – is open to the public until Sunday (25).
