Streaming platforms boosted the Brazilian music industry, according to data from Ecad (Central Office for Collection and Distribution), which points to a rise of more than 330% in copyright collection in the last five years.
The financial return of the platforms reached R$ 250 million last year. The importance of digital participation in the total collection of Ecad jumped from 5% in 2017 to 23% last year.
Ecad says that growth accelerated after the decision of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), which in 2017 confirmed the use of songs on digital platforms as a modality of public performance.
