Meta will stop hiring to adjust budget, says newspaper

by

Meta announced this Thursday (29) to its employees that it will freeze hiring until further notice, due to economic difficulties, reported the “Wall Street Journal”.

The parent company of Facebook and Instagram suffers from the slowdown in the American economy and in July reported the first drop in quarterly profit in its history.

When contacted by AFP, the company declined to comment on the announcement and mentioned statements made at the time by its director, Mark Zuckerberg, about “trends” that would lead the group to “recurrently reduce the growth in the number of employees in the next year”, to be able to “redirect the energy” of the company to other sectors.

On Thursday, the company’s human resources director, Lori Goler, told employees that the 2023 budget would be “very tight,” according to the Wall Street Journal. The board announced that it would not replace everyone who leaves.

The American newspaper reported last week that the Menlo Park, Calif., giant plans to cut spending by at least 10%. Several companies in the tech sector, such as Snapchat and Amazon, have decided to freeze their hiring in recent months.
