In the area of ​​tax policy, in addition to reducing tax burdens, this government has a serious reform agenda to present, said the Deputy Minister of Finance Apostolos Vesyropoulos. This agenda, as he said, includes institutional interventions in the direction of codification and simplification of tax legislation and a number of substantial interventions that upgrade the services provided to citizens and modernize the operation of the tax administration.

The codification and simplification of the tax legislation, as he pointed out, had been included in the plan of government policy since the beginning of the term of the current government.

This reform includes the legislative one coding of six (6) taxes (CIT, VAT, other indirect taxes, Tax Procedure Code, Property Tax and National Customs Code). At the same time, the administrative Codification of Direct Taxation was launched.

In relation to the Public Revenue Code, the Apostolos Vesyropoulos he emphasized that it is the first time, in years, that such an effort has been made and referred to the special weight and importance of the KEDE, to emphasize the need for this Code to be modern, simplified, functional and effective. “This is the targeting of our effort,” said the Deputy Finance Minister who pointed to the many amendments to the Code in previous years. “In an unsystematic and often patchy manner.” As a result, he said, many of the provisions have become inactive or have been tacitly repealed.

The Deputy Minister of Finance also referred to the problems that had been created by continuous and multiple modifications which were made piecemeal in recent years, for accountants, tax experts, citizens, businesses and tax administration executives.
