Reduction of hours: “No” of the rest of the Trade Associations of Thessaloniki to the proposal of the ESTH

by

“It increases the unfair competition and creates a problem in the payroll of the employees”, among other things, the presidencies report to GRTimes.

Vertically negative is the attitude of the rest of the Trade Associations of Thessaloniki, in the proposal filed a few days ago by the leadership of the Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding reduction of operating hours of stores to save energy. “It increases the unfair competition and creates a problem in the payroll of the employees”, among other things, the presidencies report to GRTimes.

“Our Association’s first reaction to this proposal was initially “ice cubes”. Because it fell on the table, without any process, without public consultation. And in the second reading, however, we are basically negative as we consider that it increases unfair competition”, Sarantis Theodosiadis, the president of the Trade Association of Ampelokipi – Menemeni, initially emphasized to GRtimes.

The latter also adds that “we have to think a little about the people who work all the other hours and have to do their shopping. Also, a domino effect occurs which covers many industries such as catering, while the lights are off, causing crime which in our municipality is already high”.

“If it was a government proposal that the entire business world could support, then yes. But we are a long way from that until everyone throws away their idea,” he added.

It creates a problem in the payroll of employees

“We do not agree with this methodology proposed by the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce, with the aim of saving energy. Firstly intractable problems arise concerning the part of the employees. Payroll and working hours” additionally emphasized to GRTimes, the vice-president of the Kordelios-Evosmos Trade Association, Vlasis Nikolaidis.

The latter even wonders: “Wouldn’t it be preferable to have a consultation by all the collective bodies of the commercial world, with the aim of securing as much assistance as possible from the state, than to simply implement such a proposal regarding reduced hours ?”.

Vertically negative

Likewise, the president of the Kalamaria “Mercury” Trade Association, Stavros Kritsianis, underlines the need for Legislation on the part of the state that will support all commercial enterprises.

“We have consulted on this particular proposal, we have heard comments from our members and what I can tell you with certainty is that we are not at all positive. Such a proposal cannot only apply to commercial establishments. Whatever needs to be done should be done through legislation and of course concern the entire market. And the supermarkets, but also the Malls,” he says characteristically in GRTimes.

The president of the Pavlos Melas Trade Association, Ifigenia Tousidis, moved on the same wavelength.

“We have discussed the proposal with our members, and we consider it not possible, since there is no government decision affecting the entire market. In this context, we will continue to operate as we have until now and if something follows at the government level, we discuss it.

A proposal cannot only concern shops. It should also concern the shops that exist in the big shopping centers as well as the multinational ones” he underlined.
