After the decision by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which frees mayors to offer free transport to voters, Fetronor (an entity that represents bus companies in Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte) said that will not pay for free public transport alone in the 2nd shift.
“Transport operator companies cannot, under any circumstances, operate offering free transport, without the guarantee of payment by the person who orders it”, says Fetronor in a note.
On Tuesday (18), Barroso authorized municipal administrations and public transport concessionaires to provide free transport, without the managers being subject to accusations of electoral crime or improbity. The idea is to guarantee voters the right to vote.
This Wednesday (19), the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said he does not intend to release buses for free to voters in the capital.
