Bolsonaro accuses Lula of wanting to end inheritance; PT has no proposal in this sense

In new attacks on Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) accused his opponent of wanting to end inheritances in order to confiscate them for the State. There are, however, no proposals in this sense in the PT’s plans.

In a speech during a visit to the Nova Jerusalem camp, which brings together about 630 families and is located in the rural area of Samambaia (near downtown Brasília), the president said that the PT did not vote in favor of the Constitution in 1988 because it was not in favor of private property and that the party follows with a similar project in this year’s elections.

“The left has always relativized private property. You can see, the PT did not present a government plan, because one of its proposals is the question of not having the right to inheritance. property,” Bolsonaro said.

Lula, however, never presented this proposal nor did he adopt any such measure while he was head of the federal executive. The PT does not even mention the increase in taxation of these resources in its government program, nor the confiscation of these assets.

The PT campaign promises in its government plan delivered to the Electoral Justice that it will seek a tax reform so “the poor pay less and the rich, more”.

Party members have already mentioned the idea of raising the inheritance tax, a tax that is borne by states (through the ITCMD, Causa Mortis Transmission Tax and Donation) — although they did not provide details and did not suggest ending inheritances. .

Members of Lula’s campaign also signal an increase in taxation on income and a decrease on consumption. They also intend to recreate the collection of dividends (company profits distributed to shareholders), an exempt instrument that for more than 25 years has benefited the income of both company owners or partners and those who invest in the financial market.

Bolsonaro’s program, on the other hand, does not speak clearly about raising the taxation of the richest, although it defends the proposal sent by the government itself to Congress in 2021 that seeks to change income tax rules and recreate the taxation of dividends. President and Minister Paulo Guedes (Economy) even mentioned the charge as a way to support the payment of R$ 600 of Auxílio Brasil in 2023.

Bolsonaro criticized the PT action that resulted in the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) decision against Jovem Pan and said that the station is being persecuted.

He also criticized the MST (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra) and praised those present at the camp for having left the movement. “I’m seeing a green and yellow flag here. In the past, it was the MST’s red flag. That’s part of history. That’s in the past,” he said.

The Chief Executive’s speech was preceded by a conversation with leaders of the camp, which was linked to the MST and was called Che Guevara until 2021. One of the complaints he heard was the case of a woman who claims to have lost the right to her mother’s land , by inheritance, because he did not have the title to the land in the settlement.

The main leader is Petra Magalhães, a pastor, who worked for 16 years in leftist movements and in the MST. In 2018, she even ran for district deputy for the PCO. Today, she was responsible for the exchange on and on the flag in front of the Nova Jerusalem camp.

“There are one, two, three who are leftists, but there will always be in our midst, and the majority adhered”, he tells the report.

She says it was used as “putting mass” before and didn’t realize it. Now, she fights for her land title. Such as Sheet showed, Bolsonaro has radically transformed agrarian reform. Expropriations of land and family settlements almost no longer exist and the focus is reduced to the delivery of property titles to the former beneficiaries.

“That’s what the MST does. It throws the people into a field and people stay years and years without a title, because, in fact, they don’t want these families regularized. They want people to continue in a camped state for, whenever the leadership of the movement to call, the people to be ready, because they will always be in need”, said Magalhães.

Bolsonaro’s visit had no promises, but it was preceded the day before by Senator Damares Alves (Republicans-DF) and by the deputy governor-elect of the Federal District, Celina Leão (PP), who promised to create a working group to enable land titling.

“He will be re-elected and everyone will be regularized, in the name of Jesus,” said the Bolsonarista leadership and former PCO deputy.

On his visit to the camp, before getting on an electric trio to speak, Bolsonaro had a meeting with community leaders to discuss land regularization policies. Wearing the shirts of the Brazilian team, these leaders echoed the ideas of the chief executive, with criticism of the left and the MST.
