President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) this Monday (24) relativized the allegations against former Caixa Econômica president Pedro Guimarães, who left office in June this year after being the subject of three allegations of sexual harassment and another nine of harassment. moral.
The reports point out, among other actions, unwanted touches and inappropriate invitations at events, offices, garages and inside Caixa’s cars.
Bolsonaro said in an interview with the Metrópoles portal, which revealed the case, that he saw “nothing blunt” in the complaints that were presented.
“I don’t know his private life. I know him as the president of Caixa, he did an excellent job there. Now everything is enhanced with me. It turned into a huge fire in a few hours. I called, talked to him and opted for the removal, which was promptly accepted for him, who did not contest. And he is answering”, said the president.
“I am not part of the Judiciary. Now, I have not seen any stronger testimony from any woman. I have seen testimony from women who suggested that this could have happened. It is also being investigated,” he added.
Bolsonaro later repeated his argument that he had no contact with concrete accusations against Guimarães and only testimonies from “people who felt harassed”.
“As I told you, I didn’t see anything conclusive. I saw testimonies from people who felt harassed. It’s in the hands of Justice, the Public Ministry to investigate the complaints”, he added.
The MPT (Ministry of Labor) asked at the end of September that the Justice sentence the former president of Caixa Econômica Federal Pedro Guimarães to pay R$ 30.5 million for the practices of sexual harassment, moral and discrimination against bank employees. He denies the charges.
According to information sent by the bank to the Public Ministry of Labor, three employees denounced the former president on internal channels for sexual harassment. Guimarães was also the target of nine complaints of moral harassment.
The investigation conducted by the bank’s internal affairs department confirmed the information raised by the Public Ministry. The conclusion was presented to Caixa’s Board of Directors and sent to the authorities.
Brazilians starve ‘due to misinformation’
Bolsonaro also said this Monday that people in poverty are in this condition because of “misinformation”, because they do not know that they can apply for the benefit of the Auxílio Brasil program.
The president tried to argue that the internationally recognized level of misery is in the income bracket of up to US$ 1.90 a day, and that Auxílio Brasil pays practically twice that amount, around R$ 20 a day.
“Whoever is in a state of need, just register. You don’t even have to look for a councilor, a city hall, anything. Just register. When I assumed we had around 13 million families receiving the Bolsa Família. Now there are 21 million So this information of misery exists? It exists, but due to misinformation”, said the president, also in an interview with the Metrópoles portal.
Although the president has not addressed the issue, a part of the actions foreseen in most social income transfer programs is the so-called “active search” of people in situations of vulnerability, so that they can receive the benefit.
Since the beginning of the electoral campaign, in which he seeks re-election, the president has minimized the existence of people who are hungry in Brazil, first denying the data and then going so far as to say that this situation “is not justified”.
“So, there are people who go hungry, they do. But it’s not justified to go hungry because you can request [o benefício do programa Auxílio Brasil]. And, with R$20 a day, I know it’s not a lot, but you can buy, for example, 2 kilos of chicken at the supermarket”, he said on Thursday (20), in an interview with the podcast Inteligência Ltda.
