Panel SA: Febraban says that XP lives in a parallel universe

Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks) reacted to the advertising campaign #EuNãoBanco, by XP Investimentos, which criticizes traditional banks.

In advertisements, XP claims that it does not charge fees and annuities for accounts and other customer benefits.

Launched on Monday (24), the campaign generated unease with Febraban. According to the federation, the brokerage “denies itself” by joining the federation’s membership body.

“This financial institution is, yes, a bank, but it seeks to establish some distance from its peers. It practices the same activities as a bank, preferring to pretend that it lives in a parallel universe. It seems to be ashamed of what it is”, says the signed note. by Isaac Sidney, president of Febraban.

In contrast, the entity launched the #EuBanco campaign, to say that banks are proud of what they represent, that financial companies keep the economy running and that, during the pandemic, they were the ones who held back the financial squeeze by granting R$ 12 trillion in credit. .

“Where were they, in this very difficult period, and what did those who provoke us?”, asks Febraban.

The criticism was even left for the service model of digital banks. The entity says that “newbies are protected in their mirrored offices, in the comfort of their home offices, seeking the best of all worlds”. According to Febraban, it is the physical agencies that serve customers who do not have the resources to invest money.

Sought by the SA Panel, XP declined to comment on the case.
