Former president of Credit Suisse in Brazil, José Olympio Pereira was hired by Grupo Safra to preside over Banco J. Safra as of January 2023. The bank will now focus on the wholesale area, with service to large customers and operations of investment banking and private banking at Safra.

José Olympio worked for 18 years, until the end of 2021, at the Swiss bank – which is currently facing a financial crisis on a global scale. He has been in the financial market since 1985, when he started his career at Banco Garantia.

“Safra occupies a unique position in the market. It has had a strong presence among large companies and large customers for many years. The Safra brand is synonymous with tradition and security, it has a history of over 180 years”, stated José Olympio in a note .

The banker was one of the signatories of the manifesto in defense of democracy, in July 2022, amid attacks by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) against the electoral process and electronic voting machines.
