Lula says that Minister of Economy will have to have fiscal and social responsibility

Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Thursday (27) that if he wins the second round of the presidential election on Sunday, his Minister of Economy will be someone who has fiscal responsibility, but also social responsibility.

In an interview with a group of radio stations, Lula also stated that, in an eventual third term, the holder of the Economy portfolio will be someone who has “a lot of political intelligence”.

“My Minister of Economy will be the profile of a guy who has a lot of political intelligence, he will be a person who has a lot of social commitment. He is a person who has to think about fiscal responsibility, but he also has to think about social responsibility”, said the PT during the interview.

Lula has been pressured to give more details of his economic plan and financial market agents have demanded that he announce who would be his Minister of Economy in case of victory, which would be a sign of what he intends to do in the economic area. The PT, who leads polls of voting intentions, ruled out announcing ministers before the election.

In another interview with a radio station this week, the PT member again refused to say who would command the economy in a possible new government, while saying that fiscal responsibility is part of his conception of government.

In this Thursday’s interview, Lula also commented on the unproven accusation made by president and reelection candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PL) of irregularities in the radio inserts of his campaign, classifying the interview given by the opponent the day before as a demonstration of “despair”.

PT also said that “it cannot be serious” who discusses the possibility of postponing the second round of the election because of these alleged irregularities and said that this discussion is not acceptable.
