Demonstrations by truck drivers spark alert among Lula allies

by

The demonstrations by truck drivers that took place across the country after the election of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) set off a warning signal in the PT’s team.

Truck drivers who support President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) began blocking roads on Sunday night (30) in protest against the election results. The PRF (Federal Highway Police) confirmed that until this second blockades or agglomerations were recorded on roads in 13 states and the Federal District.

The assessment of allies is that it is a political movement against Lula. PT president Gleisi Hoffmann (PR) said that this “harms the country and the people” and criticized the PRF’s actions on Sunday.

On polling day, road operations carried out by the PRF may have caused delays in voting and were subject to measures by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).

“This movement of trucks blocking roads, eminently political, harms the country and the people. State and national authorities have to take urgent action. Will the PRF be as quick to solve this blockade as it was to stop voters in the Northeast?”, wrote the newspaper. parliamentarian this Monday (31) on social media.

The PRF stated that it had called the AGU (Advocacy-General of the Union) to seek legal action to prevent the occupation of federal roads and defends in a note that, since the beginning of the blockades, “it has taken all measures to return to the normality of flows” , directing teams to locations and initiating negotiations.

But he said that he is trying to use dialogue to guarantee, “in addition to free and safe transit, the citizens’ right to demonstrate.” With the recourse to justice, the PRF wants a measure that prevents protesters from interrupting the flow of vehicles.

The strategy of Lula’s collaborators is to emphasize that this stoppage causes harm to the population, since it can generate an increase in the cost of food, in addition to traffic disruption.

An ally of the president-elect says, with reservation, that there is no agenda that justifies the protests – even because the PT has not yet taken office.
