The Turkish Defense Minister explained to his Russian counterpart that the agreement is vital for global food security
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar emphasized today to his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu that the Moscow should reconsider its decision and not suspend its participation in the grain export agreement from Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea.
In a statement from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, it is stated that in a telephone conversation that the two ministers had earlierAkar pointed out to Shoigu the importance of the agreement and stressed that it should continue to be implemented regardless of developments on the battlefield.
The Turkish Defense Minister explained to his Russian counterpart that the agreement is vital to global food security.
Hulusi Akar added that reaching the agreement also demonstrated that all problems can be resolved through dialogue and assured that the Turkish government will continue to make efforts to bring peace to the region and provide humanitarian aid to those in need.
It is recalled that both NATO and the EU have asked Russia not to withdraw from the agreement.
Earlier today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov again blamed Ukraine’s actions for stalling the deal and stressed that Russian contacts with Turkey and the United Nations, which brokered its July deal, are continuing. He declined to comment, however, when asked what, in Russia’s view, must happen for the deal to continue.
