Response of the Ministry of Finance to the statements of the president of SYRIZA during his visit to the Hellenic Aviation Industry (HAI) – “His own government led the defense industry to obsolescence”, the statement said
His reaction Ministry of Finance his statements caused Alexis Tsipras during his visit to the Greek Aviation Industry.
More detail:
“In his statements, during today’s visit to the Hellenic Aviation Industry (HAI), the President of SYRIZA – PS, Mr. Alexis Tsipras, tried to appear as an advocate of strengthening the country’s defense industry, even accusing the Government of “discrediting » of this sector, which is crucial for our country.
Apparently, Mr. Tsipras thinks he is addressing Lotofagos. Because the definition of obsolescence is the state his own Government has led the defense industry into. A situation which was reversed, thanks to the intensive, coordinated and methodical work of the current Government”.
Announcement from the Ministry of Health
The Ministry of National Defense points out, on the occasion of what the Leader of the Opposition Officer, Mr. Alexis Tsipras, claimed today during his visit to the EAB, regarding the non-participation of the domestic defense industry in the developing armament programs, the following is pointed out:
– While EAB was discredited and turned into a parking lot for damaged aircraft from 2015 to 2019, with immediate decisions and in conditions of complete transparency, the Government decided to put the company into full operation, with the recruitment of additional staff, so that it can cope today to the requirements for the implementation of the upgrade of 83 F16 fighter aircraft to the Viper version, within the schedules and quality requirements of the manufacturing company, the disengagement of the P-3 “Orion” upgrade program of the PN and the maintenance of the C-130 aircraft, for for which there was not even an Ongoing Support Agreement (FOS) until recently, as a result of which they remain stuck without any perspective.
– On October 19, 2022, the Ministry of Defense officially announced the signing of a total of twelve contracts between Greek defense hardware companies and the French Groups “NAVAL GROUP”, “THALES” and “MBDA” for the FDI Belh@rra HN frigate program. It has already been announced at the TIF that the participation of companies of the Greek Defense Industry in the shipbuilding program of the new frigates of the PN will rise to 15-18%. As the “NAVAL GROUP” Group has announced, fifty Greek companies have been evaluated, with some of which contracts have been signed for Research and Development (R&D) systems.
– The two Greek shipyards, after years of disrepair, have already entered the path of consolidation with the visible prospect of undertaking shipbuilding work from both the corvette acquisition program (which is in the final phase of negotiations) and from the EMZ program of the four frigates MEKO.
– Greece’s participation in the various European programs in the defense sector through the European Defense Fund (EDF) is among the five highest among all participating countries. From the last program of 2022 alone, Greek companies will be strengthened with 45 million euros through financing from EDF programs.
And it goes on and on.
From the above it follows that the claim that “the domestic defense industry will not benefit even by one euro from equipment worth 14 billion” is not only false but also outrageous. Given the utter inactivity of his government tenure, Mr. Tsipras’s interest in the domestic defense industry is belated and hypocritical. As for the announcement of the “renegotiation” of the contracts, the previous painful experience of the country from the result of the last major renegotiation that he and his Government had done, can only cause great concern.
