PRF fails to comply with Moraes’ decision on blockades, says MPF do Pará

by

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) of Pará states, in an official letter, that the Federal Highway Police (PRF) does not comply with the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), by not adopting the necessary measures to unblock the highways. , which have been occupied by Bolsonar protesters calling for a coup in the country.

“The Federal Highway Police has not discharged its constitutional and legal duties to date and has also failed to fully justify the failure of its actions”, says the letter, signed by 20 members of the MPF.

The document was sent to the STF and also to the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, this Tuesday (1st). The PRF recorded more than 200 blocks in the country.

The protesters, who do not have a clear leadership and organize themselves through social media, are supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and call into question, without evidence, the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the elections. They ask for an intervention by the Army against the results of the polls.

“Until the moment this demonstration was signed, even the support of the Military Police was not requested, no dispersion operation was carried out (use of non-lethal weapons, dispersion gas, use of rubber ammunition, etc.) seen is a virtual adherence to the riots, see the images that circulate on social networks”, says the MPF in the letter.

The document also reiterates that the Bolsonarista protesters call for a coup to “supplant the Democratic Rule of Law”.

“Administrative punishments were not applied to drivers of used vehicles on the spot, or any other measure other than the attempt at dialogue, which was fruitless from the beginning”, states the document.

Also this Tuesday, deputy attorneys in charge of external control of police activity asked for the opening of an investigation by the Federal Police to investigate the role of the director general of the PRF, Silvinei Vasques, in the elections and in the repression of road blocks promoted by supporters of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

According to representatives of the Federal Public Ministry, “the widely publicized conduct attributed to the director general of the PRF indicates misconduct in the management of the institution, a misuse of purpose aimed at interfering in the electoral process”.

In Santa Catarina, the PRF left a road without clearing it, even after the Court ordered the action to be carried out.

In his speech on Tuesday, Bolsonaro broke a 45-hour silence after the result of the second round and condemned roadblocks by allies, but said they were motivated by a feeling of outrage and injustice at the election in which he was defeated.

“The current popular movements are the result of indignation and a feeling of injustice at the way in which the electoral process took place,” he said. The president also affirmed that peaceful demonstrations are welcome, but condemned the restriction of the right to come and go.

Bolsonaro did not speak directly about the defeat at the polls for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) – which caused protesters to react by waving to the continuation of the blockades. “It was a very good speech, [o presidente] said what we needed to hear. We will remain”, said a protester at an act on Castelo Branco highway (SP).

The blockades began in the early hours of Sunday (30) to Monday (31). The bans already affect or threaten to affect supermarkets, airports, the hospital sector, gas stations and travel.

The PRF has been working since Monday in the case. Videos show, however, agents colluding with the protesters and not acting to clear the roads.
