Police use gas to unlock Castelo and traffic is released

The riot police of the Military Police of São Paulo used water jets and tear gas to try to clear a blockage on the stretch of the Castelo Branco highway, at km 26, in Barueri, this Wednesday (2). After the action, both directions of the lane were released and, around 12 pm, traffic returned to normal.

In the early morning, Bolsonaristas were concentrated in two of the lanes in each direction of the highway. The audience consisted of men, women and children dressed in green and yellow. There, the Independence Anthem played repeatedly in a Hilux van.

After the clearing, which began at 11:30 am, the protesters gathered at a point to the right of the highway (towards São Paulo) and chanted slogans such as “federal intervention” and “our flag will never be red”. By 12 noon, the children present early in the morning had already left the place with guardians.

After the confrontation, protesters threatened another blockade

In one of the concentrations of people in the place, a man at the microphone asked the public not to invade the only lane allowed to traffic.

During the confrontation, protesters suggested blocking the same stretch again after an eventual retreat by the riot police. By 11:50 am, two lanes in each direction were open.

“The Military Police clarifies that, with the progressive use of force and proportionate measures, it has managed to clear the roads, with the priority of the solution through dialogue”, said the institution.

The lockdown began on Tuesday (1st). The protesters came to occupy the three lanes of the runway. On the occasion, police officers from the Shock Battalion clashed with protesters participating in an anti-democratic act.

However, the presence of children in the protest made the Military Highway Police of São Paulo change its strategy in the late afternoon. Accompanied by their parents, many were right at the beginning of the blockade, in front of the place where the TV cameras were positioned. Some used whistles and held the Brazilian flag.

According to the report, the movement’s leadership has adopted a “yo-yo strategy”. In the presence of the riot police, part of the protesters dispersed and banners were released to avoid confrontation. Then, without the police, the orientation is to block more lanes again.

However, after the police action this Wednesday (2), part of the Bolsonaristas present at Castelo Branco went to the AGSP (Arsenal de Guerra de São Paulo) to continue the anti-democratic protests. The military base is also located in Barueri (SP), about 1 km from the place where the conflict took place.

According to the PRF, almost 2,000 fines have already been applied to drivers who are blocking the highways, and the value of the punishments already exceeded R$ 18 million by the afternoon of this Wednesday.
