Rio Grande do Sul has blockades again; SC has 35 points, and fuel starts to run out

by

Rio Grande do Sul once again had points of coup protests on roads. At 2:42 pm, the PRF (Federal Highway Police) recorded three interdictions and a blockade on federal highways in the state.

The police even demobilized the protesters in the morning, but new protests erupted throughout the day.

This morning, the BR-116 between Canoas and Esteio, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, was slow.

However, the motive was a motorcade and not a blockade. Fuel distributors in the region gained reinforcement of vehicles to guarantee supply to gas stations in the capital, where there was already a lack of gasoline in some establishments.

Meanwhile, in front of the Southern Military Command, in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre, a group of a few dozen coup protesters wearing the colors of Brazil asks for “federal intervention” and preaches “civil resistance”. Authorities blocked traffic at the site, but due to the All Souls’ Day holiday, there are no disturbances in the region.

Police use gas to clear stretch of BR-101 in Palhoça (SC)

In Santa Catarina, the state’s PRF (Federal Highway Police) used morale bombs around 7 am this Wednesday (2) to clear one of the main sections of the BR-101 highway, which had been blocked since Sunday (30) for protesters in Palhoça, in Greater Florianópolis.

The undemocratic act, contrary to the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), had blocked both directions of the road with trucks since Sunday, in front of a Havan store.

On Tuesday (1st), the agents got ready to comply with the decision to evict, but gave up returning to the place only at the end of the morning of this Wednesday.

There are no reports of injuries or arrests at this point.

At least 35 protest points still resist on federal highways in the state.

The most critical point of the blockades this Wednesday is on the BR-101 in Itajaí, 100 km from Florianópolis. The obstruction hinders the distribution of fuel and food in the coastal region.

According to the PRF, almost 2,000 fines have already been applied to drivers who are blocking highways across the country, and the value of the punishments already exceeded R$ 18 million by the afternoon of this Wednesday.

Gasoline starts to run out in Santa Catarina

Fuel supply problems are getting worse in regions where there are still road blocks due to coup demonstrations. In Santa Catarina, around 70% of the gas stations are out of products, according to the local dealers’ union.

The state concentrates most of the road closures in the country, according to data from the PRF (Police Federal Highway). On social networks, many reports of closed posts, including in the capital Florianópolis.

Sindipetro-SC says that two supply bases in the state have been reopened and, therefore, expects the supply to begin to resume this Wednesday (2).
