A study carried out for Uber revealed that, last year, the app was responsible for injecting R$ 7 billion into the economy of São Paulo, which alone concentrated 20% of the business generated by the platform in the country.
Across the country, Uber handled BRL 36 billion, equivalent to 0.4% of GDP in 2021. Just over 30 million users are active on the platform, the highest number in the country since 2014.
These numbers took into account what was passed on to drivers and the chain of other activities impacted by the service, such as car manufacturing, demand in mechanic shops and hiring insurance companies.
In São Paulo, 75% of users said that today it is easier to go home at night using the travel platform and 66% use the service to get to places where public transport does not reach.
Items such as safety, cost, time savings, reliability and comfort were identified as the main reasons for using the application by users in São Paulo. In the case of women, 96% of respondents indicated that they feel safer using the platform.
The study was prepared by the British consultancy Public First, responsible for evaluating the company’s results in other countries.
