“Eurostat revised downwards its estimate for October inflation from 9.9% to 9.5%. So, the concerted effort we are making to deal with punctuality is paying off”, said the Minister of Development

Satisfied with the course of the “household basket”, the Minister of Development appeared from the floor of the Parliament Adonis Georgiadesdeveloping an amendment for better labeling of relevant products, tabled in the Ministry of Justice’s bill for the “protection of persons who report violations of EU law”.

“Of the 644 same products, which the household basket had last week, 541 kept the same price and this week, 101 reduced the price and only two increased the price. So the basket generally works” said Mr. Georgiadis.

He also mentioned the “very pleasant news, that the ELSTAT announced a serious drop in inflation in Greece, to 9.1% for the month of October and indeed with a large monthly decrease in inflation” and that “Eurostat has revised downwards its estimate of October inflation from 9.9% to 9.5%” and noted: “So our concerted effort to tackle accuracy is paying off, it’s starting to pay off fruits”.

Regarding his amendment, Mr. Georgiadis said: “In the context of the implementation of the measure, we found some malfunctions: For example, that despite our recommendations, the chains had the marking for the household basket, not in a visible place and not with the right way, and generally there was a malfunction in informing the public. In order to regulate this, we propose to the body today’s amendment that has to do with the labeling and adequacy of the products in the household basket and the possibility of our service to impose fines on those chains that do not comply with the specific instructions”.
