The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announces the start of tenders for 5 major projects with a total budget of 379 million euros, financed by the Recovery Fund. These are the water supply projects in Arta – Preveza – Lefkada – Etoloakarnania, the construction of the Tsiknia dam in Lesvos, land improvement projects in Etoloakarnania, irrigation and anti-flooding projects in the Prefecture of Lasithi of Crete and anti-flooding projects in the Municipality of Loutraki.

“The 5 projects that start today with the start of the tenders combine the three fundamental goals we have set with our project program at the Ministry of Infrastructure, namely better everyday life, development and environmental protection. Vital projects, necessary and therefore imperative, which improve the quality of life of our fellow citizens” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Costas Karamanlis and added: “The Recovery and Stability Fund is a valuable source of funding for such projects and our ministry with a plan and uses its resources responsibly. These are, after all, projects that have been characterized as being of major importance and at a national level. When at the beginning of the year we said that 2022 would be the year that new construction sites would open all over Greece, many did not believe it. But, I hate big words without a response. The school of politics I serve favors action. And that is what we will continue to do. Today, throughout Greece, we see very important projects being implemented, private or public, which entail great growth, new jobs and beneficial results for a number of professions. Projects that are a very strong dividend in development.”

From his side, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Giorgos Karagiannis said: “After months of painstaking effort tenders are now underway for five major green-labeled projects that fit perfectly with the direction of the Recovery Fund. These projects deal with the consequences of climate change through anti-flood works in Crete, Mytilini, Amfilochia and Loutraki, while in Western Greece and Mytilini they combat the problem of water scarcity, which especially in the summer months becomes more intense due to the increased demand of tourist destinations. Adhering strictly to the schedule we have set, we are adding an additional 5 important projects to the large infrastructure development program in the country, amounting to 13 billion euros, which we have been implementing for about 3.5 years. The country is moving forward, the infrastructure is developing, the work continues.”
