Panel SA: Google becomes target of Cade in investigation for alleged anticompetitive practice

by

Cade (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) opened an administrative investigation against Google to investigate alleged anti-competitive practices related to its software, Android.

The company had already suffered defeat in European courts in a similar case. Despite the contestation of the American technology giant, the European Union fined Google in 4.1 billion euros (more than R$ 20 billion) for violating competition laws, in September of this year.

The European Commission said that Google forced cell phone manufacturers to previously install its browser, Chrome, and its search application as a condition for licensing the Play Store, the Android system’s application store.

The indictment also pointed to restrictions on mobile network operators in order to maintain Google’s dominance among search engines.
